What is
the SQWV assurance scheme?
The Scottish
Quality Wild Venison (SQWV) assurance scheme is the result of an 18
month development project commissioned by Forest Enterprise in
association with The Association of Deer Management Groups, The
Scottish Association of Gamedealers and Processors and The Scottish
Gamekeepers Association. This was the first occasion on which
the public and private sectors of the Scottish wild venison sector have
worked together on an initiative which encompasses the entire
industry.
The SQWV scheme helps producers to:
i) respond positively to consumers about the way wild venison is
produced.
ii) helps producers meet current wild game food hygiene legislation
iii) allow SQWV to demonstrate to
the authorities how SQWV members comply with and understand their food
hygiene responsibilities.
Furthermore the scheme is a reaction to the significant negative effect which FMD has had on the industry.
What is SFQC (to which the SQWV scheme is accredited to)?
SFQC is an
independent Certification body which operates a number of Certification
Systems which are independent, third party systems for determining
conformity with product standards. The structure of SFQC, its operating
and its certification procedures follow the general criteria for
certification bodies operating product certification as defined in the
European Standard EN45011 (to which SQWV is accredited).
This standard is designed to ensure certification is applied
consistently and fairly to all SQWV members. It also demonstrates
to venison processors and retailers that the SQWV scheme is robust and
rigorous.
SFQC is contracted by SQWV Ltd. to provide inspection, certification and administrative services.
